My husband's parents are visiting us from the states, so our daily routine has been disrupted in a big way. They are needy, infirm (it's a long story, but I suspect they relish in their supposed infirmities and embellish upon them), rude, crass, annoying, loud, obnoxious, and unpleasant. Have I covered all the bases?
They always overstay their welcome. They never clean up after themselves. They are greedy and have a sense of entitlement.
They are everything we are not.
And our lives are on hold for them for over a month. They didn't ask if it was okay. They just booked a flight and here they are.
But they are my husband's parents, and so I try my best to keep the peace.
By the way: My husband is working long, long hours the next few weeks, so I am stuck babysitting. Oh, joy.
Oh, and they are against homeschooling. They are constantly asking when I'm going to LET Tuna go to school. Tuna is, fortunately, old enough to tell them she doesn't want to go to school. But we just don't even discuss it yet. It should be interesting when school starts, and Bay goes to school, and Tuna doesn't. I'm certain that will bring about discussions I don't care to have.
As for schoolish things, we have put them on hold while they're here. No sense parading our chosen lifestyle in front of them to criticize and minimize and stick their noses in.
How do you handle disruption to your daily routine? Have you had to put up with any such unpleasantries in your homeschool life? Do you have nightmarish in-laws like me?
